Signage was installed around ponds warning people to stay off the ice and out of the water. Since the ponds are actually a series of stormwater drainage receptacles connected together by culverts, currents can develop beneath the ice causing thinning in certain areas. You may find that the ice is very thick in one area, but it might not be uniform.
Swimming and wading are also not advisable for safety reasons including the potential for drowning and contact with aquatic treatment chemicals. It is not the POA’s responsibility to police this behavior, but only to warn of the dangers. Please take a moment to remind your children of the danger the ponds can present.
